The time of action is the future. The apocalypse has happened on planet Earth. As a result of the cataclysm that occurred, resembling a powerful flash of solar energy, living conditions on the planet are harsh. There is no stable climate here, and the combination of sweltering heat and severe frosts make human habitation unbearable. Cities are under piles of sand, sandstorms often occur, crops and food are missing. Here lives a man who is one of the few lucky enough to stay alive. Finch is a former robotics engineer. He managed to hide from the destructive elements in an underground bunker. He has a spacesuit that protects him when a man climbs up. In the city he comes across a cute animal — a dog. There is no one else with him. A friendly relationship is established between a person and his pet. At some point, the main character begins to worry about the question: who will take care of his dog when he dies. He creates a humanoid robot, equips it with artificial intelligence. He tries to adapt the invention to himself and the world around him. He teaches him human feelings — love, friendship, care.
