The Call of the Wild

The narration in the film is conducted on behalf of John Thornton. The film is set during the gold rush in Alaska. A huge dog named Buck lives in a luxurious estate on the mainland of the USA. He is clumsy, spoiled, destructive and, most importantly, disobedient. After eating all the food at a party hosted by his host Judge Miller, he is forced to sleep outside as punishment. There he is kidnapped by a thief who sells the dog to merchants. Merchants send Buck to Alaska to sell him as a sled dog. In the port of Alaska, Buck meets John Thornton for the first time and returns him a harmonica that fell out of his pocket. Then it is sold to a man named Perrault, who works in the postal service. Perrault and his wife Francois add Buck to their team that transports them through the Alaskan wilderness to deliver mail. At first, Buck is awkward and depressed. The leader of the team, Spitz, cruelly treats Buck and the rest of the dogs. However, soon Buck begins to enjoy his new life and begins to communicate with his wild wolf spirit (depicted as a huge black wolf). Buck wins the favor of other sled dogs by treating them kindly, and ingratiates himself with his new owners when he rescues Francois after she fell through the ice of a frozen lake. Spitz decides to attack Buck to regain his leadership, but Buck fully accepts his wild side and defeats Spitz. Spitz goes into the desert, disgraced by his defeat.
