One of them turns Kevin into a bulky, vein-beating, wall-climbing killer, whom other personalities call a Beast. But in fact, isn't all this just an amazing self-deception caused by his mother's abuse of him as a child? Dr. Staple tries to convince him. (Or, perhaps more precisely, them, since she talks to Patricia, Hedwig, Barry, Jade, Orwell, Heinrich or Norma - just some of the personalities that manifest in the young man). The second subject is David Dunn. As a child, he almost drowned. And because of this near-death experience, this now gray-haired man has not only convinced himself that he is physically indestructible, but also that he is super-strong and has the ability to mentally sense when someone is a villain.
