Evan is being interviewed for a job in a trendy restaurant, which he could easily get if not for his troubled past. Many years ago, he attacked a customer after he sexually harassed a waitress. Evan blames his schizophrenia for what happened. Strange visions and voices often visit him. At one moment he dreams that he is a Japanese sword maker, and at another that he is forging a sword. To contain these visions, he takes super-strong pills, and buys them by selling his handmade weapons to a local drug dealer. With the exception of the problematic insinuation of psychiatric clinic patients as inherently dangerous, Fugua does not trust the audience that they will follow the main plot. Rather, Wahlberg provides a glorified temporary track as a voiceover, where he says in all seriousness, "These medications are running out. And as soon as they end, everything becomes real." Eventually, Evan comes to the attention of both Bathurst and Infinite. Although Ejiofor plays Bathurst as a man distorted by his mentally painful life - he just wants to die - this trauma is not felt at all. Ejiofor plays puzzled, causing a lot of questions, and not creating an updated character. I could not determine the origin of his thick, obnoxious accent, which in its specificity borders on a special accent from the Saturday morning cartoon. The origin of Bathurst also defies understanding: where did his enormous wealth come from? Where are the other nihilists?
