Columbus, Ohio, 2045 - We get to a place called "Stacks", as it consists of several trailers stacked on top of each other. Wade Watts is an orphan who lives with his aunt Alice and her abusive boyfriend Rick. Like the rest of the world, Wade escapes from his reality by entering OASIS (Ontologically Anthropocentric Sensory Immersive Simulation), a virtual reality world where people can enter as avatars to play video games, have fun and seek out pleasures they can't find so easily in the real world. Here you can meet such characters as Batman, Freddy Krueger and even Hello Kitty. It gets so intense because everything earned in OASIS can be taken away if the avatar dies. Wade's avatar is called Parsifal, and he often communicates with Echo, a huge muscular mechanic, as well as with the samurai Daito and the fighter Sho, although he has never met any of them in person. OASIS was created by James Halliday and Ogden Morrow, who founded the company Gregarious Games before OASIS was developed. Halliday had passed away five years earlier, but not before leaving fans with a final challenge. In his latest video, Halliday told everyone that he had hidden an Easter egg in the depths of the game, which will be opened after completing three tasks. Whoever finds the egg will inherit shares of the company Gregarious Games, the value of which is approximately half a trillion dollars, and full control over OASIS. The winners will be greeted by Halliday's avatar, Anorak, an omniscient wizard.
