During the opening fanfare, it becomes known that Emperor Palpatine is sending transmissions throughout the galaxy. Kylo Ren tracks him down and learns that he never died at the end of Return of the Jedi, but used dark powers to keep his life. Palpatine instructs him to deliver Rey. Rey trains under Leia's guidance while Po, Finn, and Chewbacca extract information from a mole in the First Order about Ren's plans. Rey, C-3PO and BB-8 join the team and meet Lando Calrissian on another planet. He leads them to an artifact that can help them find the emperor. This is a dagger with the inscription of the Sith. C-3PO can interpret the text, but cannot translate it orally. Kylo Ren collides with Rey, and a short fight takes place between them, ending with Rey emitting a lightning bolt of Power from his hand. On another planet, C-3PO manages to translate text at the expense of its memory, which is supported by R2D2. It follows from the text that on the other moon of Endor there is a guiding thread to Palpatine. Rey, Po and Finn infiltrate the star destroyer to rescue Chewbacca, but the latter two are captured and ordered to be executed. Rey fights Kylo Ren using the Force link, and it turns out that she is the granddaughter of Emperor Palpatine. General Hux turns out to be a "mole" who hopes to overthrow Kylo Ren after killing Snoke. Hux frees the prisoners, but he is discovered and killed by his superior.
