Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins

Snake Aiz is a silent ninja whose face is hidden by a black mask, which only enhances his aura of mystery and irrepressible composure. Snake Aiz offers to explain how his character became like this, and director Robert Schwentke brings tasteless professionalism to what is happening, overdoing it with the imaginary sharpness of the world of Snake Aiz. But whether it's uninspiring dialogues or stripped-down violence - there's not a drop of blood in the entire film - "Snake Eye" feels like a tamed, anonymous product loading its protagonist with a meager tragic backstory in the hope that it will sharpen its narrative arc. This Snake-Eye can speak, but no matter how hard Golding tries, he fails to give this novice warrior a special expressiveness. Once Snake Eye joins Arashikage, he must pass three tests to prove his worth, but there is nothing particularly intriguing about these tasks designed to teach him valuable life lessons. Golding, who is attractive as a romantic hero in the films "Insanely Rich Asians" and "Last Christmas", turns out to be less successful as a brooding action hero - especially one who understands that Arashikage is a force for good, while Kenta is the real villain of the picture.
