Plot of the film "Finding ʻOhana"
When 12-year-old Pili wins a competition to participate in a geocaching summer camp (a modern form of treasure hunting where participants around the world use GPS devices and tips to find hidden containers), she can't help but rejoice. She loves a good treasure hunt. But after her grandfather had a heart attack and was put on bed rest, Pili's mom transports Pili and her brother Ioane to Hawaii for the summer to help care for him. Upon arrival, the children are horrified to learn that their grandfather, Kimo, does not have WiFi. But their mom, Leilani, is more concerned that her father is about to lose his house due to unpaid bills. Now she has to decide whether to sell their apartment in New York to pay off his debt, or force him to leave the house he built in Hawaii and move in with them. Kimo would rather die than leave Hawaii. But this is not even his biggest problem. He's really worried that his grandchildren can't speak Hawaiian, can't dance hulu, and don't understand the traditions of their culture. Thus, what was supposed to be the best summer in Pili's life is quickly turning into the worst summer. However, after discovering the diary of an old privateer named Monks with instructions to the real hidden treasure, Pili's hopes are revived. People have been searching for Monks' treasures for many years. And if Pili can find him, she will not only prove her abilities as an outstanding geocacher, but also become rich enough to pay off Kimo's debts and keep their apartment in New York.
