Blade Runner 2049

What makes us human? What makes us special? What makes our life... life? Perhaps it's better not to ask. Just not in the world of 2049, where the line between man and machine is very, very thin. Replicants-constructed facsimiles of humans-inhabit this era, both on Earth and beyond. They have become different than they were before. So, in any case, their creators claim. They are more "human" than ever, thanks to the implanted memory. But they are also more malleable. They were designed to obey implicitly, eliminating the propensity for debauchery inherent in previous models. They live to obey. But do they live by the truth? Some early replicants continue to live, if, of course, they escaped. But they are seen as a threat to the natural order of things, which makes blade runners like K work. Kay's job, like all blade runners, is to hunt down rogue replicants and "retire them." This, of course, is not murder. It doesn't matter that they fight, bleed and sometimes beg for life. These replicants are human-like constructs, and nothing more - an ingenious mixture of a complex machine, artificial memory and one terrible motherboard. Kay knows that. He accepts it. If he didn't know that, the reality of his job could drive him crazy. But then, after he "retires" as a farmer, Kay stumbles upon evidence of something else, something that calls into question who lives and who doesn't.
